About Me and This Blog

I'm D. I'm 26 and a first-time mom. I graduated from college in 2009 with a degree in biology and am now working towards my masters in education so that I can teach middle and high school sciences. I reside in the Midwest with my fiance, M, who works for a medical device company. We welcomed our sweet baby boy, Bear (no, that's not his real name- I'm not a celebrity who spits food into her child's mouth), into the world on October 8th, 2011.

There are a couple reasons I decided to start this blog. The main reason is for myself. When I was newly pregnant a friend got me one of those belly books that you fill out throughout your pregnancy with things like ultrasound pictures, information from doctors appointments, how you are feeling, what you are craving, etc. I thought it was a really cute idea but ended up only half-assedly completing it. I would see it next to my bed every night and think "I should really write some stuff in there," but of course I'd put it off for the next day.. and the next.. and the next. Well now my pregnancy is over and I'm kicking myself for not recording more of the whole experience. It went by so fast and now it's all just a blur of elastic waistbands and ice cream meltdowns. I've even already forgotten most of those precious newborn days thanks to sleep deprivation. Since I spend a good chunk of my time on the computer I figure this is an easy way to document what's going on in our lives so that I can look back on it one day and maybe even show Bear.

The second reason is because becoming a new mom is HARD. If it wasn't for what other women have written in various blogs and websites around the Internet I'd have no idea that Zantac doesn't do shit for 80% of babies with reflux or that rice milk isn't adequate nutrition for toddlers with food allergies. If what I write here can help new moms the way other women have helped me, fantastic!

The name of the blog is somewhat self-explanatory. At any given time there are always two things on our kitchen counter. You guessed it- wine glasses and baby bottles. There's usually a lot of pump parts too, but "Wine Glasses and Breast Shields" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Please ignore our hideous counter top
